ZOMBIE NIGHT in Silver Spring
Saturday, October 27, 2012 @ 8:00 PM
The Story
Many of you have been asking about the status of the Zombie Walk this year - and rightfully so. A confluence of events - logistics of street closures with a crowd of this many people, insurance policies required for the road closures, lack of a true model for sponsorship (while trying to keep this a grassroots effort), subsequent costs for us (the organizers), and planned sidewalk construction/repair on Georgia Avenue - has made conducting an actual walk difficult this year, to say the least.
But you've been strong and patient. You've planned your costumes and consumed gray matter. And you've made this one of the great annual events in Silver Spring. We don't want to let that go. To that end, we are working with local organizations, including AFI Silver Theatre, the Silver Spring Urban District, The Fillmore, and a variety of local establishments to create ZOMBIE NIGHT in Silver Spring.
For starters, AFI will be catering to the undead with a (double) double feature of Grindhouse at 9:45PM (its own double feature of Planet Terror and Death Proof) followed by everyone's favorite, Shaun of the Dead at 11:45PM.

Additionally, Yonder Mountain String Band will be playing at The Fillmore (now THAT should be fun to incorporate). This is the last show of their tour, so I hope they'll join us after. And I expect many eateries/drinkeries in the area will be running specials.
Since we know there are a lot of families that bring the kids out to play, we want to make sure there are activities for everyone. I mean, there's always lumbering around, eating brains, and making documentaries, but we're working with the powers that be on these and will update this site accordingly.
For more information, send us an email.
In the meantime, start brainstorming your costumes for this year and stay tuned here (and to other resources below) for updates as they happen.
A few 2011 Zombie Walk Posters still available!
We'll shortly add a link to purchase some of the last remaining 4th Annual Zombie Walk posters for those who missed out the first time around. Last year, we commissioned one of our great local artists, El Hefe Design, to capture the essence of the 4th Annual Zombie Walk in a limited-edition, collectible poster. It measures 19" x 25" and is screen printed on high-quality, heavy archival paper. Stay tuned for odering information.
